The Setup

  • On Saturday, Northeastern State will see Washburn for the first time this season, seeking its second consecutive home win over the Ichabods.   The RiverHawks will also be looking to halt a four-game skid and their third MIAA win of the season.

Last Time Out

Emporia State 72, at Northeastern State 69 | February 3, 2022 | Tahlequah 
  • Zaria Collins and Maleeah Langstaff had double-doubles, but the Lady Hornets stung the RiverHawks late for a 72-69 win Thursday night.
  • Emporia State overtook NSU with six unanswered points inside the final minute to spoil a game that the RiverHawks led into the fourth quarter. 
  • Langstaff turned in her eighth double-double on the year with a game-high 26 points and 12 rebounds. Collins came off the bench with 13 points and 11 rebounds for her third double of the season.   
  • The RiverHawks out-rebounded the Lady Hornets by ten with 50 on the night, their best total since grabbing 61 against Bacone in the opening week of the season. From the field, NSU limited the Emporia State to 36.6-percent shooting but made the difference on offensive miscues, outscoring the RiverHawks 16-to-6 on turnovers.  Northeastern State shot 25-62 for 40.3-percent from the field.

Storylines

  • Maleeah Langstaff is among the top-100 in the nation in 12 statistical categories this season and is second in the MIAA, shooting 52.7-percent from the field.  The senior is among the MIAA leaders with 6.7 defensive rebounds per game and second in the association with 9.7 rebounds per game.  This season, Langstaff has eight double-double games and is only player in the MIAA with a triple-double.
  • Zaria Collins came off the bench on Thursday and recorded her seventh career double-double and 32nd career game with at-least ten points. 
  • Morgan Lee leads the RiverHawks with 95 games played with 63 starts.  Against Bacone this season, Lee had a career-high seven steals which was tied for 12-most in NCAA Division II women's basketball.   Her twin-sister Maegan Lee is third on the NSU roster averaging 9.0 points per game this season.  The RiverHawks have a third Lee in true-freshman Courtney Lee, who is not related to the Lee Twins and has seen the floor in 19 games.
  • Ashton Hackler has started the last ten games and has scored at-least ten points in eight games during her true-freshman season. 
  • After missing the first six games due to injury, true-freshman Jaylee Kindred made her career debut at Northwest Missouri and her first start at Central Oklahoma.  Kailyn Lay started and made her NSU debut against Pittsburg State on Dec. 12; she is sixth in MIAA play with 3.7 assists per game. 
  • Northeastern State's 62 team rebounds against Bacone is an MIAA high tied for 17th-most in NCAA Division II women's basketball this season.
  • NSU has a 633 game streak of making at least one three-pointer.  Dec. 30, 1999, at Central Arkansas is the last time Northeastern State without making a trey.
  • The RiverHawks are entering their tenth season as members of the MIAA and 25th season as an NCAA Division II program.

About Washburn

  • Washburn is playing their first game outside of Topeka in over two weeks, where they won four of five inside Lee Arena, where they are 6-6.  On the road this season, they are 2-4. 
  • The Ichabods carry one of the larger travel rosters in the MIAA, with 18 expected to suit up against NSU Saturday. 
  • Due to the Claremore Expo Center being closed due to weather, Washburn's Thursday game at Rogers State was postponed to Monday. 
  • Washburn averages 59.8 points per game, 3rd lowest in the MIAA, and last in the MIAA in three-point attempts at 302.
  • Hunter Bentley ranks 14th in the MIAA, averaging 12.6 ppg.  She has led or tied for the team-lead in scoring in 13 games this season.

Last Time They Met

at Northeastern St. 47, Washburn 44  | February 9, 2021 | Tahlequah
  • Northeastern State women's basketball defended its home court Tuesday afternoon to down Washburn 47-44 in a low scoring affair. It was the lowest output for an NSU opponent since Jan. 21, 2017, and holding the Ichabods to just 16 makes was the lowest in the head coach Fala Bullock era.
  • Zaria Collins put in nine points and pulled down 12 rebounds while the starting group combined for 43 points.

  • Including the second game against Washburn later in the season, the two teams will meet seven straight times in February. 
  • Northeastern State has not won consecutive home games against Washburn.
