RiverHawks split with Missouri Southern

TAHLEQUAH – Northeastern State split its MIAA opener Friday with Missouri Southern winning 5-4 in the opener, and later falling 10-7 in the nightcap.

The win snapped a six-game skid for the RiverHawks and they are 13-16 (1-3 MIAA) overall.

In the opener, it was a three-run fifth inning fueled by an Addy Wolfe RBI single to tie the game at 2-2.  Jaeden Rosenquist got the go-ahead run on a bases-loaded fielding error and Raegan Edwards brought in the team's fourth overall run of the game on a hit-by-pitch.

The Lions grabbed a run back in the sixth before Chloe Bohuslavicky gave NSU a run back on a fielder's choice RBI.

Back with a two-run lead, the Lions opened the seventh with a leadoff homer and stranded the tying run at second.

Northeastern State had seven hits Sydney Balderrama had two and recorded her fifth double of the season.

Savannah Evans (3-8) struck out three going 6.1 innings, Madison Heinle earned her first career save.

In the nightcap, Rosenquist ran Missouri Southern's game two starter out of the game with a grand slam homer in the first.

Southern (16-13, 4-2 MIAA) would chase the RiverHawks down in the sixth hitting a solo homer and a two-out, two-RBI triple to claim a 7-6 lead.  Northeastern State would respond back with a two-out RBI single up the middle to tie the game up.

Following a scoreless seventh, the Lions had four base hits scoring three to take the nightcap.

Northeastern State had 12 hits with Wolfe having a three-hit game, Rosenquist had two hits and five RBI.

The RiverHawks return to the field Saturday to host Pittsburg State for a doubleheader starting at 1 p.m.
