WICHITA FALLS, Texas – Northeastern State suffered its fourth consecutive setback Saturday at the hands of No. 22 Midwestern State, 5-2.
Alisha Moldakhmetova won 6-1, 6-3 in No. 3 singles, and
Belinda Jayaprakash took No. 6 singles 7-5, 6-7 (2-7), 1-0 (11-9).
The RiverHawks would have three singles courts where they won at least four games in each set but failed to win a set over the Mustangs.
"We're fighting hard right now; we are in a lot of close matches against teams that are top-25 or receiving votes," said head coach
Tim McLane. "We are giving ourselves chances, but we have to start converting on these chances. All in all, it was a good night for the ladies; it's a long drive down here, so everyone did a good job dealing with the adversity in the wind and the late start."
Emilia Cosatto and Jayaprakash won No. 3 doubles 6-1. The RiverHawks nearly took the doubles point with the set tied 4-4 on court one, and the Mustangs won the next two games for the early critical point.
Midwestern State improves to 6-3 with the win over NSU.
The RiverHawks are now 3-4 on the year and will head to Durant this upcoming Saturday to face Southeastern.
