NSU Baseball sweeps Fort Hays State

HAYS, Kan. – Northeastern State pushed its win streak to seven with an 8-4 win at Fort Hays State Sunday to complete the three-game sweep of the Tigers.

Blaze Brothers, Collin Klingensmith, and Kademon Graff had balls leave the park as the RiverHawks moved to 25-12 overall and assured themselves a winning regular-season record.  In MIAA play, the RiverHawks are 14-9, climbing up to third in the standings, tied with Washburn and Central Oklahoma.

The Tigers (3-32, 2-21 MIAA) held a 3-1 lead into the fourth until Klingensmith hit his seventh pitch of the at-bat over the right centerfield wall to tie the game.

Graff broke the game open for the RiverHawks in the fifth with his second long ball of the season, scoring two.  C.D. White later doubled down the line to give NSU a 6-3 advantage.

Fort Hays hit a solo homer in the seventh before Lucas McCain had a pinch hit RBI single in the ninth.

Graff and Klingensmith had multi-hit games for the RiverHawks on a day that they struck out a season-high 16 times.

Trey Havens (3-0) earned the win in relief, going 3.2 innings and punching out four batters.

Northeastern State will head next to Central Oklahoma Tuesday to close out its three-game mid-week series with the Bronchos.
