Softball splits at Missouri Western

ST. JOSEPH, Mo. – Northeastern State bounced back from a 7-0 setback at Missouri Western State Sunday and won the nightcap for the second consecutive day, 5-1.

The split sends the RiverHawks to 21-18 overall and 9-5 in the MIAA.

Northeastern State was limited to three hits and committed four errors in the opener.  Most of the damage came in the third, with the Griffs scoring five runs off five hits.

NSU's bats struck out nine times and only had one batter reach scoring position.  Gail Young (8-7) went five innings, allowing four earned runs.

The nightcap played out differently for the Griffons, with their lone run coming unearned in the first.   In the next frame, Raegan Edwards and Carly Kelley had RBI singles in the second to capture the lead for the RiverHawks.

Jaeden Rosenquist extended the NSU lead to three in the sixth inning with her third homer of the year.  Chloe Bohuslavicky, who had a three-hit game, gave the team its fifth run on a ground ball RBI out in the seventh.

Savannah Evans (7-8) struck out five and needed only 86 pitches for the complete game.

The Griffons were limited to four hits and dropped to 18-19 (8-8 MIAA).

Northeastern State heads to Central Oklahoma next on Friday for a doubleheader starting at 2 p.m.
