TAHLEQUAH -- Following a trio of preseason matches, Northeastern State opens its 42nd season of men's soccer Friday at Missouri S&T. The match marks the beginning of the regular season for both teams, with head coach Rob Czlonka entering his 12th season as head coach of the RiverHawks.

History with the Miners
The RiverHawks trail the overall series 4-7-1 and are 2-4-1 when facing the Miners in Rolla, Missouri. Northeastern State won the last road meeting, 3-1, against S&T on Sept. 8, 2019. The last time the two programs met in August was in 1997.

Scouting the Miners
  • Northeastern State is the first of three consecutive home matches for S&T, with the Miners hosting Rogers State on Sunday.
  • Missouri S&T opened the 2021 season hot out of the gates to start the season, winning five of their first six matches. The Miners would win one match the rest of the way finishing the year 6-8-2.
History with the Panthers
Northeastern State is 3-7 all-time against Drury and 1-4 when facing the Panthers on their home pitch. The last time the two teams met in Springfield resulted in a 1-nil setback by NSU on Sept. 6, 2019.

Scouting the Panthers
  • The Panthers open its season with four consecutive matches in Springfield. Drury will host Upper Iowa on Friday before facing the RiverHawks for the 11th time Sunday.
  • Drury went 8-7-4 one year ago and reached the GLVC Semifinals following a 1-0 double-overtime win in the 108th minute.
No Overtimes
The golden goal is no-more in the regular season; a rule change across all divisions of NCAA soccer has ended overtime play.

Chasing History
With 33 career goals, Flynn Semmerling is one back of matching Joe Garcia (2015-18) for fifth place in the NSU record book and is six behind Sergio Salinas (2003-04), who is second all-time and the NCAA era leader.

Coming Up
The RiverHawks will remain on the road and will face Dallas Baptist for the first time on August 31 in Dallas.
