MUSKOGEE –
Carlos Gomez torched the Muskogee Golf Club Monday afternoon with a nine-under-par 62 and is in second place at the 24th Annual NSU Golf Classic, shooting a two-round total of 132.
The 62 is the lowest tournament round shot by an NSU golfer since records were kept in 2000, with the previous best being a 64 shot by Brad Risenhoover on Oct. 10, 2005, in San Antonio.
After a slow start in round one, Gomez carried the RiverHawks up the leaderboard where they are in fifth place, carding a 568 (289-279), good enough for an even-par day.
Christian Yanovitch is ten back of Gomez, tied for 18th place, shooting a 73 and 69 on the course.
Parker Rose made his NSU debut shooting a 145 (73-72) and is tied for 34th.
Brett Wilcoxen had a 149 (73-76) and is tied for 57th place. In his NSU debut,
Jordan Allaire scored 155 (79-76), tied for 77th overall.
Ryan Morant leads the eight individuals on the course and is tied for 28th place, shooting a 144 (73-71).
Dustin Anderson was tied for 87th place (82-78=160).
The RiverHawks had 37 birdies, second most in the 18-team field, with Gomez having 13 on the day.
Henderson State leads the field by five strokes with a 557 (289-268) over Washburn. Missouri Southern's Tradgon McCrae is the medalist leader with a two-stroke advantage ahead of Gomez.
Northeastern State will tee off Tuesday for the final round at 11:18 a.m. with Harding and Southwestern Oklahoma.
