Women's Soccer returns home to host Emporia State and Washburn

TAHLEQUAH – Northeastern State opens a four-match homestand this Friday evening, where they will continue MIAA play against Emporia State.  The RiverHawks will have a tilt with Washburn on Sunday afternoon to close out the weekend. 

The RiverHawks are undefeated this season at DeLoache Field in four matches (2-0-2) and are 3-1-4 overall this season.  Following three consecutive draws, NSU opened conference play with a 2-0 setback at No. 10 Central Oklahoma. 

Payton Lieb and Myka Heimbach are tied for the team lead with three goals, and Hannah Stettler is tied with them with six points (2g-2a).  

Ainsley Cunningham and Rebecca Partyka are tied with 360 minutes played this season, splitting starts at goalkeeper.

History with the Hornets (2-4-2 (0-0-1 MIAA)
Northeastern State holds a 7-6-1 overall record against the Hornets and is 4-2 while at NSU.  The two teams last met in the 2021 MIAA Tournament Quarterfinal, with ESU ending the RiverHawks' season 3-0. 

Scouting the Hornets
- Emporia State's schedule features just three teams out of its 18 regular season matches that had a sub .500 record in 2021. 
- The Hornets played just one match at home last Sunday, which resulted in a 1-1 draw with Fort Hays State.
- Offensively, ESU is second in the MIAA with 14.8 shots per game and eight shots-on-goal. 
-  Mackenzie Dimarco leads the Hornets with five goals this season and is its all-time scoring leader.

History with the Ichabods (6-1-2 (1-0 MIAA)
The RiverHawks hold a 7-1-2 series lead over Washburn and have shut out the Ichabods five times.   Eight meetings have been limited to one goal, with two of the last three meetings resulting in a 1-1 draw. 

Scouting the Ichabods
- Washburn returns 13 players from the 2021 roster while adding eight freshmen and three transfers.
- The Ichabods are tied for fourth in the MIAA, allowing seven total goals.
- Jaedyn Johnson leads the Ichabods with five goals on only 14 total shots.
- Washburn will travel to Rogers State Friday before they meet with NSU.
