EMPORIA, Kan. – A key late run by (RV) Emporia State downed a shorthanded Northeastern State squad 69-60 Wednesday evening. The RiverHawks were limited to three players on the bench and were without its leading scorer
Christian Cook.
Rashad Perkins was one of three NSU players in double-figures and led the team with 15 points.
Dillon Bailey had 13 points, and
Obi Agu added 12 in his first start in nearly two years.
Northeastern State led the game into the midway mark of the second half but went scoreless for nearly three minutes, allowing seven unanswered ESU points. Emporia State never trailed the rest of the way closing the game on a 20-9 run. The RiverHawks shot 4-for-14 in the final eight minutes of the contest.
Despite the limited squad size, the RiverHawks were out in front for over 27 minutes and took a 35-34 lead into the locker room at halftime.
Emporia State rode the back of Owen Long's 34 points for the season sweep of the RiverHawks as they moved to 16-4 overall (10-4 MIAA).
The RiverHawks shot 42.6 percent on the floor as they will fall to 10-8 (7-7 MIAA). They will return to action on Saturday at 3 p.m. when they face Washburn in Topeka, Kan.
