NSU Travels to RSU and Hosts Southern Nazarene

TAHLEQUAH – Northeastern State stays on the road to start the week with a matchup in Claremore against Rogers State before coming back home to do battle with Southern Nazarene at DeLoache Field in continued GAC/MIAA action.

Last week, the RiverHawks picked up a 3-0 victory in Arkadelphia, Ark. in their lone contest of the week over Ouachita Baptist on Saturday, Oct. 14.

History with the Hillcats
Northeastern State holds a 3-8-2 record against Rogers State. The RiverHawks will enter Thursday night's match looking to end a four-match winless streak against the Hillcats. Their lone win in series history against RSU in Claremore came on Sept. 30, 2021. 

Scouting the Hillcats
- Rogers State spent last week on the road, dropped a 2-1 matchup in Bethany on Thursday, Oct. 12 to Southern Nazarene before dominating Fort Hays State on Saturday, Oct. 14 in a 7-0 result. 
- Rogers State possesses the highest-scoring offense in the GAC/MIAA, with 35 goals scored on the campaign thus far. The Hillcats have scored at least three goals in five matches this season.
- Marcos Vasallo leads the conference with ten goals this season. George Robinson has also been a factor, ranking sixth with five makes. 
- The Hillcats have defended Soldier Field well throughout recent history, as they've only lost two matches at home dating back to the start of the 2022 season. Excluding the COVID-shortened 2020 campaign, RSU has won at least five matches at home every season since 2015. 

Fast Facts
- In their first meeting of the season in Tahlequah on Sept. 28, the Hillcats outshot the RiverHawks 14-8 and limited NSU to just two on-goal tries across the match to snag a 1-0 victory. 
- Martin Martinez enters the week coming off a two-goal performance against Ouachita Baptist last Saturday. He now faces an RSU team that he scored on last year in Claremore, as the then-true freshmen converted on a 24th-minute attempt when NSU last traveled to Soldier Field on Oct. 15, 2022.

History with the Crimson Storm
Southern Nazarene leads the all-time series 35-21-2. The RiverHawks won 18 of 21 from the 1995 season through the 2020 season. Since then, the Storm have claimed six of seven. 

Scouting the Crimson Storm
- SNU defeated Rogers State by a score of 2-1 in Bethany in a ranked battle on Thursday, Oct. 12 before taking their first loss of GAC/MIAA play to Newman at home on Saturday, Oct. 14. 
- The Storm have the second-highest scoring offense in the conference, with 32 goals across the season so far. 
- SNU has two of the conference's top four scorers in Unaiz Shajani (third with eight goals) and Bruno Ferreira (fourth with seven). 
- With 124 fouls this season, the Storm are the second-least penalized team in the GAC/MIAA, only behind Northeastern State (113). 

Fast Facts
- In their first meeting of the season in Bethany on Sept. 30, Northeastern State took a 3-0 loss after being held to six attempts and two shots on-goal. Southern Nazarene totaled 21 shots on the match, connecting on three of their 14 on-goal tries. 
- The RiverHawks are in search of their first victory against the Storm in Tahlequah since Feb. 26, 2021. In a 2-1 win, NSU claimed a goal in both halves and doubled SNU's shot output 12-6. 
- An NSU win would be their fourth at DeLoache Field this season. Excluding the COVID-shortened 2020 campaign, the RiverHawks have won at least four in Tahlequah every season since 2017.

- Ian Milla is ranked sixth nationally with a .857 save percentage and 15th in goals against average (.621 per game). 
- Ivan Lopez is tied for seventh nationally in shot accuracy (.704) and is tied for 16th in shots on goal per game (1.9).

Coming Up
Northeastern State goes back on the road to face Fort Hays State in Hays, Kan. on Thursday, Oct. 26 at 7 p.m. before returning to DeLoache Field for their penultimate home contest against Newman on Saturday, Oct. 28 at 1 p.m.
