TAHLEQUAH – Northeastern State took the pitch for the final time under the lights at DeLoache Field this season Friday night, but they were unable to find the back of the net in a 2-0 loss to Northwest Missouri State.
The visiting Bearcats found their first make of the evening just over a quarter into the matchup, striking in the 23rd minute to secure a 1-0 advantage, a score that would remain across the rest of the period.
NW Missouri logged another goal just over five minutes into the second half, attacking in the 51st minute to make it a multi-score lead. Ultimately, NSU failed to find a response to either of the opposition's converted shots, as they took their third home shutout loss of the season and their second across their last three contests.
Despite the setback, the RiverHawks mustered consistent attempt totals across both halves, sending eight shots in each. 11 of NSU's 16 tries were on-target.
Whitney Gentry led the RiverHawks with a team-high six shots and a match-high five shots on-goal.
The loss drops Northeastern State to 4-7-4 (2-6-1 MIAA), while Northwest Missouri State claimed their third straight victory to advance to 6-4-5 (3-2-3 MIAA).
NSU finishes their 2023 home slate of matches at DeLoache Field with Senior Day on Sunday, Oct. 22 with a 1 p.m. start against Missouri Western.
