RiverHawks Face Tigers in Friday MIAA Quarterfinal Action

TAHLEQUAH – Northeastern State makes its 11th consecutive MIAA Tournament appearance Friday evening where they will travel to Fort Hays State for a quarterfinal tilt.  

The RiverHawks qualified as a No. 6 seed after holding a tiebreaker over Central Oklahoma.  Sydney Taylor is tied for third in the MIAA with nine goals on the year and Whitney Gentry has landed three of her five goals in the previous three outings.

History with the Tigers (12-3-3)
Northeastern State leads the all-time series 6-5-1 over Fort Hays State. The Tigers took a 2-0 decision on Oct. 13 over the RiverHawks in Tahlequah and have held NSU scoreless for 336 consecutive minutes.  Northeastern State is 3-3-1 when visiting Hays. Their last visit was a scoreless draw last season. The two teams have yet to face each other in the MIAA Tournament. 

Scouting the Tigers
- Fort Hays State has one loss this season at home in 11 matches.  
- The Tigers finished tied for third place in the MIAA standings and took the higher seed over Emporia State due to holding a tiebreaker over the Hornets. 
- Hannah Mares and Allison Worley have a combined 15 goals and are sixth and seventh in the MIAA in goals. Mares is second nationally with a .771 shot accuracy. 
- Goalkeeper Isabel Robben leads the MIAA with 11 shutouts. She is one of three keepers in the nation to play 1620 minutes.

Fast Facts
- The RiverHawks are undefeated across the all-time series when they score against the Tigers. NSU has been held off the scoreboard across all five of their losses to FHSU, as well as the lone draw of the series in 2022. 
- NSU was held without an attempt in the second half of the first meeting between the teams in 2023 on Oct. 13. FHSU logged five in response, finding two goals as a result to take the victory in Tahlequah.
- The Tigers lost their most recent home matchup and will look to avoid dropping consecutive home contests for the first time since 2021. 

Overtimes Return
If there is a tie after 90 minutes, two ten-minute extra time periods will be played.  Should a team score in the extra time, the match will continue until the end of the second ten-minute period.  If the match remains in a draw, a penalty shoot-out will determine the advancing team. 

Up Next
Friday's winner will advance to the MIAA Semifinal in Wichita, Kan. to play either Central Missouri or Central Oklahoma.
