HAYS, Kan. — Northeastern State's season ended Friday night in a 2-0 loss to Fort Hays State in the quarterfinals of the MIAA Tournament.
The six-seeded RiverHawks (6-9-2) entered the night's action in search of their first MIAA tournament win since 2019. After fighting a scoreless battle with the three-seeded Tigers (13-3-3) for over a third of the match, FHSU struck the first major blow of the night in the 35th minute to take an early lead. Less than ten minutes later, the Tigers connected again, making it a 2-0 advantage in the 44th minute.
While the RiverHawks pitched a shutout in the second half, they were held to just three attempts and failed to record a shot on-goal over the final period amid their efforts to counter FHSU's opening frame offense.
With the win, Fort Hays State advances to the semifinals, where they will face the two-seeded Central Missouri Jennies in Wichita, Kan. on Thursday, Nov. 9.
The RiverHawks will see their season end with its eleventh consecutive postseason appearance.
