TAHLEQUAH (Nov. 4, 2023) – Northwest Missouri State scored on seven of its first eight possessions, spoiling Northeastern State's Senior Day with a 52-0 win over the RiverHawks on Saturday afternoon on Gable Field at Doc Wadley Stadium.
Senior quarterback Mike Hohensee tied a school record with six touchdown passes (to five different receivers) for Northwest Missouri State (6-4, 5-4 MIAA). He completed 16 of 23 attempts for 359 yards before exiting early in the fourth quarter. Jay Harris, the MIAA's leading rusher, added 108 yards on the ground on 22 carries. Kashan Griffin was the Bearcats' top receiver with 111 yards on three catches and Peyton Carder had three catches for 194 yards. Northwest Missouri State had 596 yards of offense.
NSU (1-9, 0-9) has not beaten Northwestern Missouri State in 13 meetings with the Bearcats. The RiverHawks had 124 yards of offense, led by quarterback
Ben Ward (10 of 16 passing for 79 yards), receiver
Devin Blayney (two catches for 46 yards) and running back
Blake May (14 carries for 23 yards).
The RiverHawks' best chance at scoring came in the second quarter. Down 17-0, they drove to the Northwest Missouri State 31 before
Tyler Crawford missed a 49-yard field-goal attempt with 6:01 left before halftime.
Makarios Brown led NSU defensively with 12 tackles – raising his team-best total to 76 for the season – while
Dalton Crumbly added nine.
