Men's Soccer Faces SNU in GAC/MIAA Semifinals

TAHLEQUAH – Northeastern State travels to Bethany, Okla. for the GAC/MIAA Semifinals to face Southern Nazarene Friday, Nov. 10. 

The RiverHawks finished the regular season with an 8-5-4 (6-4-2 GAC/MIAA) record. Their conference mark was enough to claim fourth place in the league's regular season standings, giving them a matchup with the GAC/MIAA's top seed in SNU.

History with the Crimson Storm (12-4-2, 10-2 GAC/MIAA)
Southern Nazarene leads the all-time series 36-21-2. The RiverHawks won 18 of 21 from the 1995 season through the 2020 season. Since then, the Storm have claimed seven of eight. SNU swept the regular season series, claiming a win in their initial meeting in Bethany (3-0, Sept. 30) and in the rematch in Tahlequah (2-1, Oct. 21).

Scouting the Crimson Storm
- SNU took just their second loss of conference play last week in Hays, Kan. against Fort Hays State on Thursday, Nov. 2. The Crimson Storm were dealt a 2-0 setback before rebounding to a 4-1 win in the regular season finale on Saturday, Nov. 4 against Newman in Wichita, Kan. 
- The Crimson Storm have the highest scoring offense in the conference, with 47 goals across the season so far. 
- SNU has two of the conference's top five scorers in Unaiz Shajani (second with 12 goals) and Bruno Ferreira (tied for fourth with ten). 
- The team leads the conference in converted penalty kicks (five) and attempts (six). 

Fast Facts
- This is the third straight postseason featuring a semifinal matchup between the Crimson Storm and the RiverHawks. NSU took the 2021 meeting (3-0), while SNU took 2022's semifinal clash in OT (1-0). 
- The Crimson Storm tallied more attempts than the RiverHawks across their regular season battles, outshooting NSU 36-11. 
- Davi Dornelles will be a name to watch for Northeastern State, as the senior scored on SNU back on Oct. 21. Dornelles also connected with a score in the regular season finale last week on Nov. 4 against Harding. 

In the Rankings
- Ian Milla is tied for eighth nationally with a .833 save percentage and is ranked 20th in goals against average (.766 per game). 
- Ivan Lopez is second nationally in shot accuracy (.750) and is tied for 23rd in shots on goal per game (1.71).

Coming Up
The winner of Friday's semifinal matchup will face the winner of Fort Hays State/Rogers State for the GAC/MIAA Championship on Sunday, Nov. 12 at 2 p.m.
