BENTONVILLE, Ark. –
Madison Heinle spun her first no-hitter at Northeastern State as they finished the weekend 4-0 at the Alvy Early Classic. The sophomore struck out seven batters in a 2-0 win over Truman State and had the save a 7-4 triumph against Drury.
On the weekend, Heinle went 17 innings without being charged with a run while striking out 24 batters.
Chloe Bohuslavicky homered for NSU in the fourth and hit an RBI single for all the scoring against Truman State. The RiverHawks scatted seven hits, with Heinle (3-1) fanning seven batters.
In the nightcap, Drury tallied a run in the opening frame and held the lead until the third.
Emily Sampson tied the game on a wild pitch, and
Baylea Smith put NSU on top with an RBI single. NSU pitcher
Savannah Evans helped herself at the plate with a grand slam to give the RiverHawks a 6-1 advantage.
Smith added NSU's seventh run in the fourth with a bases-loaded walk.
Drury scored a run in the fifth and added two more in the sixth. The Panthers would manage to load the bases to get the go-ahead run at the plate with no outs before Heinle closed the door.
The RiverHawks had six hits, with Evans (1-1) going five innings. Heinle struck out two and recorded the final six outs.
NSU improves to 5-3 overall and will return to action on Friday afternoon for the Edmond Regional Softball Festival.
