TAHLEQUAH – Northeastern State scored eight unanswered runs and clubbed three homers to beat William Jewell 10-4 on Sunday at Thomas C. Rousey Field.
The RiverHawks claimed the series win over the Cardinals as they improved to 5-5 overall this season.
Coby Tweten hit a two-RBI homer in the second to give NSU the early lead before William Jewell batted through its lineup in the next frame scoring four runs. NSU trailed briefly in the bottom half of the third they got a run from
Matt Kaiser, and
Brayden Rodden tied the game with a solo shot.
Northeastern State scored runs in the next four innings, with Kaiser hitting the go-ahead run in the fourth on a sac fly.
Isaiah Keller hit his third homer of the season in the fifth; he would finish the day with a three RBI game.
The RiverHawks had 12 hits overall; Kaiser had three RBI, and
Blake Freeman swiped a pair of bags and added two hits.
Korrdell Jiles (1-0) went five innings and struck out six batters.
Gage Fuller,
Logan Stewart, and
Cole White tossed scoreless frames out of the bullpen.
William Jewell was limited to five hits and fell to 1-2.
Northeastern State will head to Durant Tuesday to face Southeastern Oklahoma before returning home to host Emporia State to open MIAA play Friday.
