Box Score TAHLEQUAH – Northeastern State committed five errors, and Emporia State scored seven unanswered runs to get past the RiverHawks 7-4 and prevented a series sweep Saturday afternoon at Thomas C. Rousey Field.
The RiverHawks drop to 8-6 overall and are 2-1 in MIAA play. Emporia State snapped an eight-game skid to the RiverHawks and are now 5-10 (1-2 MIAA).
Northeastern State held a four-run lead to the sixth inning scoring on a
DeClaudio Irvin double down the line and a
Coby Tweten two-run homer in the second.
Isaiah Keller added one more in the third, scoring
Blake Freeman from third on a sac fly to left field.
The Hornets broke a 22-inning scoreless streak with a two-RBI single in the sixth, and later NSU miscues allowed three more runs to cross home plate to take a 5-4 lead. Emporia added an insurance run in the next two innings.
Korrdell Jiles went 5.1 innings and had nine strikeouts;
Kyle Duffey fanned two batters in the ninth inning.
Northeastern State returns to action Friday to open a three-game series with Central Missouri. First pitch Friday is scheduled for the first game under the lights at Thomas C. Rousey Field at 5 p.m.
