KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The MIAA announced its men's seedings and pairings for the 2023 MIAA Basketball Championships, presented by
Southern Bank. First round men's games tip-off at 12 p.m. Wednesday, March 1 at Municipal Auditorium in Kansas City, Missouri.
Northwest Missouri clinched its 10th consecutive MIAA regular season title and claimed the No. 1 seed in the post-season tournament. The Bearcats finished the season 20-2 in league competition to be crowned the outright MIAA champions.
With a first round bye in the tournament, the top-seeded Bearcats will play the winner of No. 8 seed Washburn (11-11) and No. 9 seed Missouri Western (9-13) on Thursday, March 2, at 12 p.m. The Ichabods and Griffons will be the first game to tip-off at the 2023 championships of the championship with a noon game time on Wednesday, March 2.
Central Oklahoma tabbed the No. 2 seed with a league record of 18-4. The Bronchos also receive a first round bye and will take on the winner of No. 7 seed Missouri Southern (12-10) and No. 10 seed Northeastern State (9-13) on Thursday at 2:15 p.m. The Lions and RiverHawks tip-off at 2:15 p.m. on Wednesday.
Fort Hays State earned the No. 3 seed in the bracket with a MIAA record of 15-7. The Tigers are paired against No. 6 seed Rogers State (12-10) and will play the first game of the day on Friday, March 3, at 2:15 p.m.
Emporia State clinched the No. 4 seed after going 15-7 against league competition. The Hornets will face No. 5 seed Lincoln (14-8) at no noon on Friday.
The MIAA is celebrating 20 years of conference basketball championships in Kansas City's historic Municipal Auditorium. The 2023 championships will also celebrate the 50th Anniversary of Title IX. Each MIAA institution selected their own champion of women's collegiate athletics to be honored. All 14 Title IX Champions, living or deceased, will be recognized and presented an award on the MIAA court during the tournament.
