TAHLEQUAH –
Lizzy Hall tossed Northeastern State's third no-hitter of the season Wednesday evening as the RiverHawks split a non-conference doubleheader to Arkansas-Monticello. The Blossoms took the opener 6-5 in ten innings, and NSU had the nightcap 15-3 in five innings.
Hall made the no-hitter in a non-traditional way, with the Blossoms scoring in the second after they loaded the bases on two walks and a hit batter. Similarly, an error and two walks led to a ground ball out and a fly-out RBI in the fourth. Hall moved to 6-0 on the year with one earned run allowed.
The RiverHawks scored in each inning and blew the game wide open in the fourth, scoring nine runs off eight hits.
Drew Hawkins and
Savannah Evans had two RBI doubles in the frame.
Northeastern State had 17 hits and didn't have a homer in the nightcap, with six players having a multi-hit game.
The opposite could be said in the opener, where the RiverHawks couldn't buy a run in extras. Arkansas-Monticello (14-13) tied the game at 6-6 with two runs in the sixth, and it would take the third extra inning with the international tiebreaker to plate a run.
Baylea Smith had three hits and her fifth homer of the year, and
Emily Sampson had her second home run in the fourth.
Savannah Evans (6-5) went 4.1 innings in relief, striking out two batters.
Northeastern State moves to 18-9 on the year and returns to MIAA play Saturday at Missouri Southern.
