PHOENIX, ARIZONA — Northeastern State men's golf team is participating in RJGA Palm Valley Classic at Palm Valley Golf Club (Par 72 — 7015 Yards). The RiverHawks are currently in sixth place after carding a 597 on day one. They had a 301 and after making adjustments came back for round two and finished with a 296.
Carlos Gomez is currently leading the RiverHawks in a three-way tie for seventh place after shooting a 145 (72-73). Gomez hit six birdies and 24 pars, tying him for the third most pars.
"We had the low round in brutal second round conditions and almost canceled it for the wind," said head coach Scott Varner. "Solid performance after a horrible first round in much better conditions, Carlos has a chance tomorrow with a very solid round."
Christian Yanovitch trails Gomez by three strokes, placing him in a four-way tie for 19th place with a 148 (73-75). Yanovitch also had 24 pars today. Both Ryan Morant and Brett Wilcoxen are in an eleven-way tie for 33rd with an overall score of 152. Morant and Wilcoxen shot a 78 during round one and made adjustments to improve their game allowing them to both shoot a 74 in round two. Morant was the lone player from NSU to shoot an eagle today.
Gabe Replogle is currently in a tie for 72nd place shooting 158 (78-80).
Colorado Mesa is currently in first with an overall score of 584 (282-302). Colorado - CO Springs is behind NSU with a 602 (296-306). Kolton Baber of West Texas A&M, Xavier Bighaus of Colorado Christian and Cole Beyer of Colorado Mesa are all currently tied for first, each carding a 142.
The RiverHawks will return to the course Tuesday morning for their final round.
