RiverHawks turn back Northwest in home sweep

TAHLEQUAH – Savannah Evans tossed a three-hit shutout and had a three-run homer as RiverHawks turned back Northwest Missouri 6-0 and 3-1 on Friday evening.

The sweep moves the RiverHawks to 22-15 overall and 4-8 in the MIAA.

Game one was all NSU behind a three-hit shutout by starting pitcher Savannah Evans.  The junior collected three of the RiverHawks' 12 hits on the Bearcats, who had just one extra-base knock.  Evans moved to 8-8 on the year in the circle.

Addy Wolfe smashed her tenth homer of the season in the fifth and had two RBI.  Allison Zanca plated an RBI single in the third and sixth inning.

Emily Sampson and Delaney Mills also drove in runs as part of a three-run sixth inning.

Evans' bat was the difference in the nightcap, and in the second inning, she crushed a 1-2 pitch to centerfield for her 11th homer of the season.

The RiverHawks only had three hits but drew seven walks, with Evans being put on base three times.

Northwest's (20-18, 5-9 MIAA) lone run came in the opening frame on a two-out single to left field.

Madison Heinle (8-5) had her tenth complete game of the season and six strikeouts.

The RiverHawks return to the field Saturday for a doubleheader with Missouri Western State at 1 p.m.
