RiverHawks face uphill climb at NCAA Super Regional

WINONA, Minn. -- Northeastern State men's golf struggled Monday in their opening round of the NCAA Central / Midwest Super Regional and are tied for 19th place, shooting a 22-over-par 306 at The Bridges Golf Course.

The RiverHawks are tied with Missouri Southern, who edged NSU at the MIAA Championship a few weeks prior.   They are 30 strokes back of Grand Valley State, who fired off a blistering eight-under-par 276 and held an 11-stroke team lead.

For a transfer spot to the NCAA National Championship, the RiverHawks have to make up 14 strokes, with the top six advancing out of the Super Regional.

Ryan Morant and Brett Wilcoxen had the low rounds for NSU Monday shooting a 76.  Carlos Gomez and Christian Yanovitch were one back of those two.  Gabe Replogle turned in an 82 to round out NSU's group.

The RiverHawks will return to the course Thursday at 7:30 a.m. for round two.
