FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. – Northeastern State Baseball alumni Nic Swanson earned a promotion from Low-A Fayetteville to High-A Asheville Monday afternoon.  The 2021 MLB Draft selection by the Houston Astros posted a 2.61 earned run average in 14 games, with 66 strikeouts, while going 4-2 on the hill for Fayetteville this season. 

Swanson was starting his second season with the Woodpeckers and didn't surrender an earned run in four of his last six outings.  His most recent appearance came on June 25 where Swanson came in relief in the fifth inning, going four and two-thirds innings, allowing two hits and punching out seven batters. 

The Bixby, Okla. native held one of the lowest earned run averages nationally in the 2021 season for a starter at 1.55 and had a 9-1 record striking out 106 batters.   Swanson was an American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) Second Team All-America selection and earned three All-Region Honors.
