TAHLEQUAH – After 11 years and over 200 wins as Northeastern State's head softball coach Clay Davis has announced that he will be stepping down to pursue other professional opportunities.
"Coach Davis will be missed at Northeastern State," said Director of Athletics John Sisemore. "As he leaves NSU to spend more time with his family, Coach Davis can do so knowing that he made an incredible impact on the softball community. His commitment to his student-athletes on and off the field is unmatched. He has committed to remain close to the program and will be available to assist our student-athletes."
Davis' 286 wins at Northeastern State is the second most in its program history and tops as an NCAA Division II member. He has led the RiverHawks to winning campaigns in the previous six seasons and went 30-21 in his final year at the helm. Davis took over a program in its first season as a member of the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association (MIAA) and qualified for its postseason six times. Davis' 2014 club became the first 8-seed to reach the tournament finals.
Under Davis' leadership, 64 student-athletes have won All-MIAA accolades, with six all-region honors and an All-American selection. He posted a 478-373-1 record with stints at Bacone, Berryhill High School, and Empire High School.
A national search is currently underway for its next softball coach.
