Women's Soccer set to face in-state foes

TAHLEQUAH – Northeastern State hosts Rogers State Friday for Military Appreciation Day honoring members of the U.S. Military and raising money that goes towards the Paws for Purple Hearts organization.  The RiverHawks will be wearing their alternate white uniforms with a large yellow ribbon as the front crest.  

Northeastern State (0-1-3) closes its weekend on the road where they travel down Interstate 44 to face Central Oklahoma in Edmond.

History with the Hillcats (2-1-1)
The RiverHawks have faced Rogers State four times and are 2-1-3.  Northeastern State is 2-0-1 overall when hosting its closest foe. 

Scouting the Hillcats
  • The Hillcats are second among MIAA schools allowing two goals through its first four matches of the season.
  • Morgan Martucci is third among MIAA players with three assists. 
  • Rogers State played a rare Monday outing at East Central and beat the Tigers 4-0.
  • Tiffany Brittan took goalkeeper of the week honors in the MIAA on Sept. 6 and has recorded an association-high 18 saves. 

Fast Facts
  • In their most recent meeting in Tahlequah on Oct. 23, 2022, the Hillcats took an early 1-nil advantage after a 19th-minute goal. RSU would go on to hold the lead for the majority of the match, but a goal in the 71st minute by Eileen Jeschke, her second of the 2022 season, evened it up. The RiverHawks found the clincher in the 83rd minute by Sydney Taylor, securing their first victory against the Hillcats since Nov. 1, 2019. 
  • Across both of last season's contests, NSU outshot RSU 30-15, though the RiverHawks only made three more on-goal attempts than the Hillcats (10-7). 
  • Across the program's three September matches against Rogers State, all have ended in draws, including two that remained scoreless throughout.

History with the Bronchos (1-1-2)
Northeastern State and Central Oklahoma have faced 35 times previously with the Bronchos holding a 23-8-4 series lead.  On the road, Northeastern State is 3-12-1 in Edmond with their last win coming on Oct. 26, 2018 (2-1).

Scouting the Bronchos 
  • Central will be traveling to Newman on Thursday evening prior to facing Northeastern State.
  • The Bronchos are tied for second with nine goals on the year and have taken 37 shots, fourth lowest among the 12 MIAA teams.
  • The 2023 season is the final campaign for UCO head coach Mike Cook who started the soccer program 25 years ago.  
  • Central was picked to finish in fifth place in the MIAA standings. 
Fast Facts
  • The most recent NSU victory over UCO in Edmond took place on Oct. 26, 2018, in a 2-1 showing. Despite being outshot 21-8 and limited to just two attempts in the first half, the RiverHawks landed on second-half tries from Meagan Chase and Mariah Nicolet to win. Goalkeeper Brennan Hockett made seven saves to help secure the win. 
  • When the two teams faced off in Edmond last season on Sep. 18, 2022, NSU was unable to convert on any of their ten shots, while the Bronchos found goals in the 14th and 90th minutes, respectively, to extend their winning streak against the RiverHawks in Edmond to three with the 2-nil result. 
  • The Bronchos have been a common opponent for the RiverHawks in September, with all six of their regular season meetings since 2019 taking place during the month.
Coming Up
The RiverHawks return to action on Friday, Sept. 22 where they will host Newman for their final non-conference match.
