EDMOND, Okla. - Early goals from
Sydney Taylor propelled Northeastern State past Central Oklahoma, securing their first victory of the 2023 season in a 2-1 effort Sunday afternoon.
A converted penalty kick in the tenth minute by Taylor gave Northeastern State (1-2-3) the early 1-nil advantage over the opposing Bronchos (2-2-2). Just over two minutes later, Taylor found the back of the net again in the 12th minute to secure her first brace as a RiverHawk. Faced with a 2-nil deficit in the early going, the Bronchos responded with their own goal in the 16th minute to cut the NSU lead in half.
UCO went on to outshoot NSU across the match 16-12 while holding the RiverHawks to just four attempts in the second half. Despite that, the Bronchos were shut out for the last 74 minutes, highlighted by a strong performance from RiverHawk goalkeeper
Rebecca Partyka, who logged a season-high seven saves.
Northeastern State returns to DeLoache Field on Friday, Sep. 22 to face Newman at 7 p.m.
