Scoreless Night in Emporia Results in NSU’s First MIAA Loss

Box Score EMPORIA, Kan. — Northeastern State failed to find the back of the net across ten attempts, while a goal in both halves allowed Emporia State to take a 2-nil victory Friday night. 

With the loss, NSU's three-match unbeaten streak comes to an end, while dropping them to 2-3-4 (0-1-1 MIAA). ESU moves to 2-4-3 (1-1 MIAA), with the win being their fifth straight against the RiverHawks in Emporia. 

It took over a third of the match to find the evening's first goal, but the Hornets were able to convert in the 35th minute to give themselves a 1-nil lead. Ultimately, the RiverHawks were unable to muster a response, being shut out across the full time, while a 79th-minute make from ESU allowed the Hornets to snag the multi-score victory.

ESU held the shot advantage 14-to-10 while having six shots on-goal to NSU's five. Whitney Gentry led the RiverHawks with four attempts, with two being on-goal. Sydney Taylor also logged multiple tries with one shot on-goal. 

The RiverHawks go to Topeka to face Washburn on Sunday, Oct. 1 at 1 p.m.
