Women's Soccer visits Southwest Baptist Thursday, hosts NWOSU

TAHLEQUAH -- Non-conference play continues for the RiverHawks in week two where they will visit Southwest Baptist for the ninth time and they close the week out hosting Northwestern Oklahoma on Sunday.

History with the Bearcats
Northeastern State has not lost in 11 consecutive matches against Southwest Baptist and is 4-2-2 when visiting Bolivar, Missouri.  The RiverHawks have shut out the Bearcats in its last two previous meetings and have been held scoreless for 207 consecutive minutes. The series started with a 13-nil thumping by NSU in 1996 during the team's inaugural season. In the overall series, the RiverHawks are 12-2-2 against Southwest Baptist. 

Scouting the Bearcats
  • Southwest Baptist is 0-2 to start the season and has not won a match in over a calendar year.
  • The Bearcats have played the same non-conference schedule at NSU so far, falling 3-1 to Harding and were dropped 3-nil to Ouachita Baptist.  
  • The Bearcats returned 22 players from last season including nine of their top starters.
Fast Facts
  • NSU scored a 1-nil victory in last season's contest against Southwest Baptist after an 86th-minute goal by Payton Lieb. Sydney Taylor recorded the first assist of her collegiate career in the effort and would go on to finish second on the team in 2022 with three on the season. 
  • The RiverHawks have outshot the Bearcats in each of their last eight meetings. In six of those, the RiverHawks have logged at least 15 attempts, while the Bearcats have been held to less than ten in seven out of their last eight against NSU.
  • Through the first two games this season, Northeastern State has outperformed opponents in securing goal-scoring opportunities. The RiverHawks have outshot opponents 27-15, with 13 of their attempts being on goal. NSU has also recorded almost twice as many corners as their first two opponents (12-7).

History with the Rangers
Northeastern State has not played Northwestern Oklahoma since the 2019 season and is 6-0 when hosting the Rangers.  The RiverHawks have shut out Northwestern Oklahoma in eight of the nine previous meetings.  Northeastern State leads the overall series 10-2 and has won the last five contests. 

Scouting the Rangers
  • The Rangers have played only MIAA foes through its opening three matches and are 2-1 to start the year. 
  • Northwestern Oklahoma was picked to finish tied for third in the Great American Conference standings. 
  • Teams have played the Rangers evenly this season thus far with shots-per-game being nine for NWOSU, teams have shot 9.7 against them.
Fast Facts
  • The RiverHawks and Rangers were once regular non-conference opponents, facing each other on an annual basis from 2012-19. 
  • Northeastern State took the most recent meeting between the two teams in 2019 in a 3-nil victory. The RiverHawks found immediate offense with a goal from Mariah Nicolet in the first minute of the game. Nicolet would secure her fifth career brace with another score in the 66th minute, while a made penalty kick from Anslea Haikey would provide the RiverHawks their seventh victory in series history by at least three goals. 
  • The RiverHawks have not surrendered a goal in a home contest against the Rangers since Oct. 8, 2008.  
Coming Up 
The RiverHawks move onto MIAA pod play and will host Rogers State on Sept. 15 for a non-conference tilt at DeLoache Field.
