TAHLEQUAH – Northeastern State Baseball and head coach
Sunny Golloway has named
Matt Kaiser,
Coby Tweten,
Ty Van Meter,
Cole White, and
C.D. White as team captains for the 2024 season.
"We are very excited to announce these five young men as our captains," said Golloway. "They have earned the respect of their teammates and the standards that we want to set for this program."
Kaiser will be suiting up for a third season with the RiverHawks in 2024. Injuries hampered the Broken Arrow native last season but he paced the team with 14 stolen bases. Kaiser is NSU's lone 20-20 player in program history stealing 22 bags and hitting 20 homers to earn All-Region honors in 2022.
Tweten will be in his second season at NSU and was an All-MIAA selection in 2023. The senior bounced back from a .212 batting average in February and hit .387 in MIAA play. Tweten batted clean-up for the RiverHawks and logged a team-high .454 on-base percentage.
Van Meter returns to NSU for the second season where he was used as a weekday starter for the RiverHawks in 2023 and their starting third baseman. He was an All-MIAA selection at third base and delivered a standout performance in the first round of the MIAA Tournament against Washburn, homering twice, contributing a six-RBI performance in game two, and providing the series-clinching sacrifice fly in the tenth inning of game three.
Cole White led the team in pitching appearances with 28 last season picking up three wins and three saves for the RiverHawks. The senior fanned 32 batters in 38.1 innings and struck out multiple batters in eleven appearances.
C.D. White will enter this fourth season at NSU this spring and is a three-time All-MIAA selection at first base with 202 career hits. He spent the entire 2023 season batting third in the order and led the team with 72 hits and 17 doubles.
The RiverHawks will open their season with the Dugan Collegiate Baseball Invitational in Hot Springs, Ark. on Feb. 1.
