Men's Golf finishes third at Newman Invitational

Wichita, Kan. -- Northeastern State fell three strokes short of the win as the team ended the Newman Invitational with a 598 (291-307) to take third place at the two-round event Tuesday.

Fort Hays State shot the lowest around across the eight-team field with a 302 to come back from third place on the previous day to win the event with a 595 (293-302). Newman finished one stroke back in second at their home event (283-313) after collapsing to the field's third-highest score in the concluding round.

Bliss Newton and Brett Wilcoxen both placed inside the top ten among individuals. Newton entered the second round in second place overall after shooting a 69, but slipped to fifth after ending his showing with a 77 to finish the event with a 146. Wilcoxen landed four strokes back of his first round total of 72 by carding a 76, but finished the event in a three-way tie for seventh with a 148 across both days.

Cole Waymire was one shot back of the top ten by tying for 12th with a 150 (74-76), while Will Livermore tied for 25th with a 157 (79-78). Parker Rose shot a 158 (76-82), respectively. 

Northeastern State is in action next week in the Sunflower state by participating in the Washburn Invitational in Topeka, Kan. on Oct. 21-22.
