Women's Soccer back on road at UCO, Newman this week

TAHLEQUAH -- Northeastern State travels to end the month for women's soccer, facing road tests at Central Oklahoma and Newman this week.

Sydney Taylor ranks 12th nationally in shots per game (4.15) and 15th in shots on goal per game (2.31). Both marks also top all MIAA individuals. Meanwhile, Whitney Gentry is tied for sixth in the MIAA in goals (five) and the RiverHawks are tied for the third-fewest goals allowed in the conference (12).

History with the Bronchos (7-5-2, 4-2-2 MIAA)
The RiverHawks are 9-23-5 all-time against the Bronchos. Last season, NSU took a 2-1 win in a non-MIAA meeting in Edmond on Sep. 17 before drawing in a 1-1 result in Tahlequah on Sep. 24. 

Scouting the Bronchos

  • Central Oklahoma dominated the pitch against Missouri Southern, earning their fourth MIAA win in a 4-1 victory over the Lions. UCO has scored at least four goals in three of their last four matches.
  • The Bronchos own the second-highest scoring offense in the MIAA with 30 goals. Rebekah George is tied for third in the league with seven goals, while Madison Linavong is inside the top ten with four.
  • The team is officially in the first season of the Amel Muhamedagic era. The longtime UCO assistant became just the second head women's soccer coach in program history after Mike Cook's retirement after the end of last season.

History with the Jets (0-13-1, 0-8 MIAA)
NSU is 7-8-2 all-time against ESU, searching for their first win against the Lady Hornets since Nov. 15, 2019.

Scouting the Jets

  • The Jets are the MIAA's lone winless team in both league and overall action, most recently losing a 7-nil contest at then-#25 Central Missouri. Newman searches for their first win since Sep. 29, 2023.
  • Newman sits in last in the MIAA in both goals for (six) and goals allowed (40). The team has only scored three goals in conference play and has allowed multiple goals in 13 of 14 matches this season.
  • Goalie Carla Apodaca is third in the conference in saves (75) and fourth in saves per game (5.36).
