Broken Arrow, Okla. — Will Livermore netted a hole-in-one, while Brett Wilcoxen led a strong second round that saw Northeastern State climb into the top six by the conclusion of Monday's action at the Tulsa Cup.
NSU carded a 612 (317-295) across the day, emerging from a tie for 13th after the opening frame to just a stroke back of fifth-place Central Missouri (611, 314-297) after the second. Washburn possesses the lead with a 602 (302-300). A majority of teams finished their scheduled rounds before the day's action was ended due to darkness.
Guiding NSU's stout middle round were the ten-stroke improvements of three different competitors in Wilcoxen, Bliss Newton and Cole Waymire. Wilcoxen finished the day in sixth place on the individual rankings with a 148 (79-69). The redshirt senior landed four birdies in the second and carded an under-par round to sit just two strokes back of the lead entering Tuesday.
Juan Vergel landed a 150 (74-76) to tie for 14th, sitting in striking distance of the top ten at a single stroke behind. Newton carded a 158 (84-74) on the opening day. Livermore added three birdies across Monday's action to a hole-in-one on the 13th hole in the second round to finish with a 160 (80-80), while Waymire logged a 162 (86-76), respectively.
Five teams were unable to complete the second round on Monday and will conclude the frame once play resumes tomorrow morning at 8:00 a.m. After that, the third and final round of the two-day tournament at Indian Springs Country Club will take place.
