Men's Soccer begins final homestand, hosting FHSU and Newman

TAHLEQUAH -- Northeastern State returns home to begin their final three-match homestand of the season, hosting Fort Hays State and Newman this week.

With two weeks left in the regular season, the RiverHawks (2-6-6, 2-3-3 GAC/MIAA) sit six points back from fourth-place Newman in the conference standings.

History with the Tigers (9-3-2, 6-2-1 GAC/MIAA)
Northeastern State trails the overall series 9-17-7. FHSU claimed the first meeting of the season on Oct. 5 in Hays, Kan. in a 6-1 decision.

Scouting the Tigers
  • The Tigers boast the highest-scoring offense in the conference (43 goals), most recently scoring a season-high eight in an 8-0 shutout win over Ouachita Baptist last Saturday.
  • FHSU possesses two of the conferences top five goal scorers in Elias Ovelar Semeniuk (third, seven goals) and Bastian Carlman (tied for fifth, five).
  • Defensively, Fort Hays State has allowed the fewest goals in the GAC/MIAA (15) despite making the fewest saves in the league (27).
History with the Jets (8-6, 5-3 GAC/MIAA)
Northeastern State holds a 20-11-2 series lead over Newman. The Jets ended a seven-match winning streak for NSU in the series on Oct. 3 by defeating the RiverHawks in a 5-1 result in Wichita, Kan.

Scouting the Jets
  • The Jets most recently have won two straight, avenging a loss from earlier in the season against Ouachita Baptist last Thursday in a 4-1 win, while completing a regular season sweep of Harding in a 4-2 effort, both in Wichita.
  • Newman is second in the GAC/MIAA with 36 goals and 37 assists.  The Jets also lead the conference with five red cards and 52 yellows (no other GAC/MIAA team has more than three reds and 40 yellows).
  • Alberto Romano leads the conference in shots (49) and is second in goals (12). Gabriel Dias Juliani is another key contributor on the offensive end, accounding for 31 shots (sixth in GAC/MIAA) and six goals (fourth).
