Women's Soccer travels to battle Missouri Western Friday night

TAHLEQUAH -- Northeastern State go back on the road this week when they travel to clash with Missouri Western on Friday.

The RiverHawks (8-2, 2-2 MIAA) claimed two wins last week at home against Missouri Southern (4-0) and Pittsburg State (3-1), marking the first time since 2017 that the team has won at least eight of their first ten matches.

The team possesses the third-highest scoring offense in the lead (23 goals), just one conversion shy of Central Missouri and Missouri Western (24) for the league lead.

In the national rankings, Sydney Taylor is tied for 6th in NCAA Division II in shots per game (4.8) and eighth in shots on goal per game (2.6). Whitney Gentry is tied for third among MIAA individuals with five goals this season, while Hannah Anderson is tied for third in the association with three assists.

History with the Griffons (9-0-1, 4-0 MIAA)
The RiverHawks have won eight of 12 in the all-time series, including last season's meeting in Tahlequah (4-2). In St. Joseph, Mo., the team is 3-2-1 against the Griffons.

  • Missouri Western is the lone unbeaten team in overall play inside the MIAA and one of three unbeaten teams in league play, most recently knocking off Newman and Central Oklahoma on the road in a pair of 3-nil victories.
  • Led by Lauren Nylund (five goals), the Griffons are tied for the most goals in the league (24) with Central Missouri. Six different players have logged multiple makes this season.
  • In their second season under the leadership of former Eastern Oregon head coach Jacob Plocher, the Griffons are one win shy on the campaign from matching their combined win totals from the 2022 and 2023 seasons and reaching at least ten wins for the first time since 2018.
