Men's Basketball hosts Haskell Thursday, travels to Southern Nazarene Saturday

TAHLEQUAH – The NSU men's basketball team remains in Oklahoma for the second consecutive week and will host Haskell on Thursday evening for their home opener and Nike N7 Night and then visits Southern Nazarene for the first time in nearly 40 years on Saturday. 

A Quick Look Back 

Northeastern State (1-1) split its opening weekend in Edmond and led both Northwestern Oklahoma and Mary (N.D.) by double-digits in the second half.  Trey Phipps' 29 points against Mary is an individual high among players in the MIAA through the opening two weeks and leads the association with 27 points per game.   Ethan Blackmon is third in the MIAA in both scoring and rebounding, his 11 made field goals against Mary are tops in the association. 

About Haskell (3-6)

Haskell is 3-6 overall and is winless in four road contests, their trip to NSU is the first of three in the 918.  Following a visit to Tahlequah, they will travel to Oral Roberts and Rogers State. Nehemiah Boykins leads Haskell with 14.4 points per game, with the team averaging 64.1 per outing. 

The Series

Northeastern State has won all five meetings with Haskell and scored over 90 points in the previous three clashes. 

About Southern Nazarene (0-0)

Southern Nazarene will be opening their season against the RiverHawks on Saturday and reached the Great American Conference Tournament Finals this past spring.  The Crimson Storm were picked sixth in the GAC after going 16-14 (11-11 GAC) overall and have nearly an entirely new roster this fall.  Stevie Strong will be a familiar face for NSU with the Newman transfer facing the RiverHawks six times in MIAA play. 

The Series 

Saturday will be the first NCAA meeting between the two programs with Southern Nazarene and Northeastern State's last encounter being 2005.  There are four known meetings between the two programs with NSU having the 3-1 advantage in the series.
