Century mark reached for first time since 2022 as NSU breezes by Haskell

TAHLEQUAH — Trey Phipps knocked down eight triples and scored 38 points in his NSU Event Center debut as Northeastern State took down Haskell in the Nike N7 Game by a score of 103-68 Thursday night.

Phipps saw immediate electricity on the offensive end and knocked down three early treys as part of an opening 18-2 outburst from the RiverHawks (2-1) across the first 4:17 of game time. He would land 32 points in the first half and help NSU to a 57-29 advantage by intermission. In the frame, the hosts shot at a 19-of-37 (51.4%) mark and 13-of-23 (56.5%) from three-point range.

NSU would display similar efficiency in the second half, converting on 17-of-31 (54.8%) tries and reaching the century mark for the first time since 2022 off a layup in the paint from Taven Washington, who finished the night with 21 points and nine made field goals.

Keon Edwards tied Trey Phipps for second on the team in rebounding (six) and reached double figures with 11 points. Jaxon Jones held the team crown on the glass with eight boards, while Bryson Smith provided a team-best nine assists in the win.

Northeastern State travels to face Southern Nazarene in Bethany, Okla. on Saturday with a 7:30 tipoff.
