TAHLEQUAH, Okla. -- Northeastern State flexed its depth and efficiency on Monday night, delivering a commanding 90-46 victory over McPherson in front of a lively crowd at Jack Dobbins Field House. The win is the 24th consecutive in the former full-time home of NSU Basketball.
The RiverHawks (4-3) overwhelmed McPherson with a relentless offensive attack, sharp three-point shooting, and smothering defense. Gabrielle Tilley had 12 points, all from behind the arc, while Grace Abercrombie added 14 points, shooting 4-for-7 from deep. Northeastern State's bench played a starring role, contributing 55 points and keeping the tempo high throughout the contest.
The game was never in doubt as NSU controlled the pace from the opening tip. The RiverHawks raced to a 21-8 lead in the first quarter, fueled by Abercrombie's two three-pointers and a stifling defensive effort that forced nine McPherson turnovers. By halftime, Northeastern State had built a commanding 49-24 lead, outscoring the Bulldogs 28-16 in the second quarter.
The RiverHawks dominated the paint, scoring 42 points inside, and added 19 points on fast breaks. Deyanna Douglas was a force down low, tallying 15 points, five rebounds, and a steal. Madina Camara contributed 10 points, four rebounds, and two blocks, helping Northeastern State maintain a physical presence.
NSU's defense set the tone, forcing 26 turnovers and turning them into 29 points. McPherson's shooting woes compounded their struggles, as the Bulldogs shot just 34% from the field and missed all eight of their three-point attempts.
McPherson's top scorer, Laura Guillamat-Ribo, managed 10 points, while Kennedy Smith added eight points and six rebounds.
In the third quarter, Northeastern State poured in 25 points while holding the Bulldogs to 14. The lead ballooned to 74-38 heading into the final frame, allowing the RiverHawks to cruise through the fourth quarter as they gave significant minutes to their bench players.
Northeastern State finished the game shooting 47.9% from the field, including 12-of-33 from three-point range. They also excelled in sharing the ball, dishing out 26 assists on 34 made field goals. Courtney Lee led the rebounding effort with eight boards, and the team's 42-31 edge on the glass allowed them to capitalize on second-chance opportunities.
With the win, Northeastern State improved to 4-3 on the season and displayed the kind of depth and versatility that will be critical as they head into Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletic Association play at Arkansas-Fort Smith on Dec. 3 at 5:30 p.m.
