TULSA -- Annaston Brown paced Northeastern State with 17 points and six rebounds in a 99-74 exhibition loss Monday at Oral Roberts. The true freshman sank five three-pointers and played a team-high 30 minutes inside the Mabee Center.
Monday's contest served as ORU's season opener as the Golden Eagles had two players with at least 20 points. Taleyah Jones had a game-high 26 points on 10-for-22 shooting.
Northeastern State shot 47.2 percent (25-53) from the field but turnovers plagued them and with 29 the Golden Eagles (1-0) scored 37 points off NSU miscues.
The RiverHawks tied the game twice and narrowed the game to single digits in the second and third quarters thanks to their ten three-pointers. Northeastern State landed five triples in the third stanza and was 11-for-17 from the field in those ten minutes.
Alex Hill scored 14 points and had five rebounds, and Grace Abercrombie had 13. Courtney Lee added eight points, with all but one NSU player scoring.
The RiverHawks open their regular season on Friday with Southwestern Oklahoma at 4 p.m., the contest is hosted by Rogers State in Claremore.
