Softball travels for six games through weekend

| By:
TAHLEQUAH -- Northeastern State continues non-conference action with six games in three days across Edmond and Bethany, Okla.

The team will seek to right the ship after taking four losses in Arkansas the previous week.

The Setup
- Northeastern State is in its first season with Rachel Rhode as the head softball coach. Rhode joined the program after Clay Davis departed NSU softball after the conclusion of the 2023 season. She brings previous experience as an assistant at Truman State (2021-22) and Bemidji State (2019-20).
- The RiverHawks enter the campaign after a 30-win result in 2023, the team's sixth straight winning season and their second 30-win effort since 2018. A 12-14 MIAA record resulted in NSU missing the league's postseason tournament for the second time in three seasons.
- This week's games are part of a 24-game non-conference schedule. The RiverHawks begin their MIAA slate on Friday, Mar. 8 in Claremore, Okla. against Rogers State.

Around the Diamond
- Despite the loss, there were plenty of big plays from the Northeastern State offense in last week's finale against the Bulldogs of Truman State, with the RiverHawks finishing with 17 runs, their most in a single game since they tallied 20 against Haskell on Feb. 22, 2020.
- Addy Wolfe had an eventful Saturday in Bentonville, finishing games against Wayne State and Truman State with base hits, logging four across the doubleheader and being involved in five of the team's 17 runs in the close setback against Truman State.
- Brynn Burchfield made an impact at the top of the order, getting a base hit in each of the first three games of their Bentonville schedule, while drawing two walks in the Saturday nightcap against Truman State.
- With a three-run homer in the matchup against TSU, Madison Heinle has recorded two in just five at-bats early into the year.
Allison Zanca will seek to pick up this week where she left off in the last, after finishing the Truman State game with four base hits, including a solo homer in the fifth inning.
