Softball hosts Rockhurst Sunday, travels to Durant Tuesday

TAHLEQUAH -- Following a weekend off NSU softball returns to action on Sunday to host Rockhurst for the first time and then travels to Durant on Tuesday to wrap up the bulk of the non-conference slate. 

Sunday's doubleheader with Rockhurst will be lone action at RiverHawks Park for the next three weeks. 

The Setup

- Northeastern State (4-10)  is in its first season with Rachel Rhode as the head softball coach.  She has experience as an assistant at Truman State (2021-22) and Bemidji State (2019-20).
- Emily Sampson has reached base in five consecutive games and paces the team with seven doubles and ten RBI. 
Brynn Burchfield will enter the weekend with a three-game hitting streak and has started 13 games from the top of the NSU lineup.
- NSU's pitching staff allowed two earned runs in their previous doubleheader against Missouri S&T.
- Miscues have plagued the RiverHawks early this season and with 26 they have a .937 fielding percentage, third lowest among MIAA teams.

About Rockhurst 
- The Hawks will visit Claremore on Saturday to face Rogers State before visiting NSU
- Rockhurst has been shut out five times this season and is batting .188 as a team which is seventh lowest in NCAA Division II softball. 
- Anna Stephen threw the third no-hitter in RU history in a 4-0 win over Sioux Falls last weekend.

About Southeastern 
- Northeastern State and Southeastern played each other earlier in the season with the Savage Storm beating the RiverHawks 5-2 in Bethany. 
- The RiverHawks have not traveled to Durant since the 2012 season which was NSU's independent year.
- The Savage Storm will host a three-game conference series with Southwestern Oklahoma before playing the RiverHawks.
- India McMurray is 15th nationally with five homers. 

Coming Up
Following their trip to Southeastern, the RiverHawks will open MIAA play at Rogers State on Saturday, March 9.
