TAHLEQUAH -- Northeastern State women's tennis opens 2024 with a date with Southwest Baptist in Edmond, Okla. on Saturday, Feb. 10.
The Setup
- Northeastern State is led by
Tim McLane in his fourth season at the helm. McLane and the RiverHawks will look for another big season after being one game away from an MIAA tournament championship in 2023. Before coming to Tahlequah, McLane was with the USC Upstate program for four seasons (2017-20), including two as the head coach (2018-20). McLane was also an assistant at Mercer for three seasons (2014-16).
- The RiverHawks return four players from last season's unit, all of whom received MIAA accolades.
Valeria Teran earned MIAA First-Team honors at no. 5 singles and
Sandra Mari Marti earned a Second Team selection at no. 6 singles, while
Leah Gonzales-Edwards (no. 3 singles) and Alisha Moldakhemetova (no. 2 singles and no. 1 doubles) received Honorable Mention selections.
- NSU was selected to finish sixth in the MIAA Preseason Coaches Poll.

History with the Bearcats
The RiverHawks are 13-8 all-time against the Bearcats, though SBU has won the last three. NSU will look for their first win since they claimed a 5-4 result in Bolivar, Mo. on Mar. 15, 2018.
Coming Up
Northeastern State is back on Feb. 20 with a trip to Durant, Okla. to square off with Southeastern Oklahoma at 2 p.m. before hosting Arkansas-Fort Smith in Tahlequah on Feb. 24 at 1 p.m.
