TAHLEQUAH – Northeastern State women's tennis heads south of the Red River for two matches during Spring Break. The RiverHawks will see Texas A&M-Kingsville and St. Mary's in San Antonio on Monday and Tuesday.
The upcoming matches will be NSU's final scheduled non-MIAA contests and they will go to Texas with a 4-2 overall mark.
Valeria Teran climbed into the Intercollegiate Tennis Association's (ITA) singles rankings for the first time coming in at No. 61. The sophomore is 10-2 overall this season in singles.
Andrea Vargas has won four matches in a row and
Sandra Mari Marti has won her previous three singles contests.
Northeastern State will first see Texas A&M-Kingsville (7-4) for a neutral site contest on Monday at noon. The Javelinas are ranked No. 50 in the latest ITA Computerized Poll. Alessa Maier headlines TAMUK as the No. 8 singles player nationally. Northeastern State leads the overall series 4-0 with the last meeting in 2018.
St. Mary's (2-3) will face NSU as its fourth match in five days. The Rattlers' three losses have come by a 4-3 result with one of those being from Central Oklahoma on Feb. 25. Paula Garrote was named the initial Lone Star Conference Women's Tennis Player of the Week for the spring after she won a three-set win at No. 3 singles and No. 2 doubles against UTRGV. The RiverHawks lead the series 6-3 with the last meeting being in 2018.
