Box Score SAN ANTONIO, Texas – Northeastern State pushed No. 50 Texas A&M-Kingsville and prevailed 4-3 with Tegan Heaton getting a three-set tiebreaker for the road upset on Monday. The junior prevailed 6-4, 6-7 (7-4), and 7-6 (10-8) at No. 4 singles in a match that lasted over three hours.
"Very, gritty win for this team today. We did a nice job of getting a bunch of first sets after dropping the doubles point," said head coach Tim McLane. "Kingsville is a really solid team and they worked their way back in and that turned into a real battle that went well over four hours."
"A bunch of heart and guts and supporting each other is what allowed us to pull that one out at the end. Great win moving forward."
Alisha Moldakhmetova won her first match of the spring at No. 2 singles, 6-2, 6-3. Valeria Teran claimed No. 5 singles 6-3, 6-0 and Andrea Vargas took a 6-3, 7-5 result at No. 6 singles
Northeastern State improved to 5-2 overall with the win over Texas A&M-Kingsville and are now 5-0 all-time in the series history.
The RiverHawks return to action on Tuesday at 2 p.m. to face St. Mary's.
