KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Northeastern State will face Emporia State in the opening round of the MIAA Women's Basketball Tournament Wednesday at noon inside Kansas City's Municipal Auditorium.
The RiverHawks finished the regular season with an overall record of 14-14 and tied for eighth in the MIAA standings with a 10-12 mark.
Under first-year head coach
Keith Ferguson the RiverHawks broke a six-year postseason drought and posted its best record since the 2012-13 campaign. The 14-win total from this year surpasses the combined mark for the two previous seasons combined.
NSU has not played inside Municipal Auditorium since the 2015 MIAA Tournament and it is the program's sixth overall appearance.
Northeastern State is the No. 8 seed and will face No. 9 seed Emporia State (13-15, 10-12 MIAA) in the opening round. ESU is a team that the RiverHawks saw in its last MIAA Tournament appearance in 2018. During the 2023-24 regular season, the series was split with each team winning on its home court. It is worth noting that, NSU did lead by 18 points at the half at Emporia.
All-session ($60) and single-session (adult-$25; student/youth-$10) tickets will be available for fans to purchase from the NSU Athletic Department at the administration offices until Monday, March 4, in the NSU Event Center. Purchasing through Northeastern State will ensure seats in the RiverHawks cheering sections for each round.
