TAHLEQUAH -- Northeastern State opens its 43rd season of men's soccer on Thursday at Missouri S&T. The match marks the beginning of the regular season for both teams, with head coach
Rob Czlonka entering his 13th season as head coach of the RiverHawks.
For the third consecutive season, Northeastern State men's soccer is tabbed to finish in fourth place in a preseason vote by the Great American Conference and Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association men's soccer coaches.
The RiverHawks return its leading scorer from last season in
Ivan Lopez who netted five goals for NSU. But will have a new full-time keeper with
Gonzalo Castells being the returner with 2023 action.
History with the MinersÂ
The RiverHawks trail the overall series 5-8-1 and are 2-5-1 when facing the Miners in Rolla, Missouri. Northeastern State won the last road meeting, 3-1, against S&T on Sept. 8, 2019.
Scouting the Miners
- Missouri S&T is coming off a 4-9-2 overall record and was picked to finish in 11th place in the Great Lakes Valley Conference.Â
- The Miners return All-GLVC performer Mike Banasik who led the team with six goals in 17 matches, ranking sixth in the GLVC.
History with the PanthersÂ
Northeastern State is 4-7-1 all-time against Drury and 2-2-1 when facing the Panthers in Tahlequah. The RiverHawks have not lost to Drury in the previous three matches, last season's match at NSU resulted in a scoreless draw.
