TAHLEQUAH – Northeastern State women's basketball plays their first matchup on the 2025 side of the season, returning to the road to battle #14 Pittsburg State on Saturday at 1:30 p.m.

Saturday's matchup can be viewed on The MIAA Network. Orry Phillips will be on the call on Lakes Country 102.1 from John Lance Arena.

A quick look back

The RiverHawks (5-7, 1-2 MIAA) wrapped up the calendar year with an 82-78 loss to Kansas Wesleyan on Dec. 31 at the NSU Event Center. Courtney Lee scored a career-high 26 points in the non-conference loss, which dropped NSU to 16-5 at home across the Ferguson era.

NSU enters 2025 with three consecutive defeats, of which their last two have seen opponents shoot at 50% or better from the field. With 16 MIAA games remaining, the RiverHawks pursue their second consecutive conference postseason berth after returning to the MIAA Tournament last season for the first time since 2018.

About #14 Pittsburg State (11-2, 3-0 MIAA)

PSU began 2025 on a high note, emerging victorious in a 91-71 decision over Arkansas-Fort Smith at John Lance Arena on Thursday night. The Gorillas enter with wins in two straight and 11 of their last 12, while the defending MIAA Tournament Champions saw their current league winning streak extended to six with their triumph over the Lions.

Two-time All-MIAA selection Karenna Gerber anchors the team in the scoring (16.8 points per game) and rebounding (8.4 rebounds per game) departments from the front court as she seeks her second consecutive All-MIAA First Team selection. Macie Mays (15.0 PPG) leads the supporting cast and has reached double figures in eight straight, while Grace Pyle (14.5 PPG) sits closely behind in third across the PSU roster in scoring.

The Series

NSU is 10-24 against PSU across program history, but have dropped their last 17 contests to the Gorillas in a streak that dates back to 2013. The RiverHawks seek their fifth road win in the all-time series and their first since 1987. Courtney Lee scored 13 points and paced the team in rebounding (six) last season against PSU at John Lance Arena in an 82-72 loss.
