TAHLEQUAH -- Despite a gritty defensive effort and a flurry of late chances, Northeastern State couldn't find the equalizer Friday night, falling 1–0 to Missouri Western at DeLoache Field.
The RiverHawks (6-4-1, 1-3-1 MIAA) controlled long stretches of play after halftime, pushing numbers forward and creating several quality looks on goal. Still, Missouri Western goalkeeper Morgan Byrd turned away every attempt, finishing with seven saves to secure the shutout.
Senior goalkeeper
Rebecca Partyka kept NSU within striking distance, recording nine saves while facing 24 total shots.
Missouri Western's lone tally came in the 21st minute from Rosemary Pujado, whose early strike proved to be the game-winner.
Lilly Burkhardt led Northeastern State's attack with a pair of shots, including one on target, while
Brynn Baldon and
Sydney Taylor each added scoring chances.
The RiverHawks will aim to rebound on the road when they travel to Washburn on Oct. 17 for their next MIAA matchup.
