Ruiz and Greenwood lead NSU after two rounds in Warrensburg

WARRENSBURG, Mo. — Northeastern State found a pair of strong individual performances in Maria Ruiz and Boh Greenwood on day one of the Midwest Classic, while the RiverHawks sit in 11th as a unit in the 14-team field after one day.

Ruiz led NSU individually with a 145 (73-72) to tie for fifth across the entire field of competitors. She sits three strokes back of fourth place and is five off of third place entering Tuesday. Boh Greenwood finished just two strokes back of Ruiz with a 147 (72-75) to tie for 12th. 

"Boh has helped radically," head golf coach Scott Varner said, adding that "I'm very proud of the day Maria had as a true freshman."

Meanwhile, Talya Samir shot a 162 (84-78), displaying a six-stroke improvement in the second round. Laci Fravert shot a 175 (93-82) with an 11-stroke improvement in the final round of Monday's action, while Laia Llorens scored a 177 (86-91).

The tournament concludes tomorrow with the third and final round.
