CLAREMORE, Okla. -- A first-half corner kick proved to be the difference as Northeastern State dropped a hard-fought 1–0 match to Rogers State on Wednesday night at Soldier Field.
The Hillcats' lone goal came in the 41st minute when Sam Ryder scored off a corner kick, finishing a setup from Alex Fletcher to give Rogers State (9-1-2, 5-1-0 GAC/MIAA) the edge it would hold for the rest of the match.
Rogers State outshot Northeastern State 19–12 overall, but the RiverHawks generated plenty of pressure in the second half with eight shots after halftime. NSU's best opportunities came late, when
Carl Murch and
Carter Adams each forced saves from the Hillcat keeper.
Goalkeeper
Cameron McColloch was stellar between the posts, recording five saves — including a penalty kick stop in the 20th minute — to keep the RiverHawks within striking distance.
The RiverHawks (6-4-2, 3-3-0 GAC/MIAA) return home Saturday, Oct. 18, to host Fort Hays State. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. at DeLoache Field.
